SENIGALLIA – On the occasion of the next European elections on 8 and 9 June 2024, the IV circle of the Democratic Party of Senigallia is organizing a meeting on the theme: “Agricultural policies and rural development”.

With the contribution of Maurizio Mangialardi (regional group leader of the PD) and Dimitri Giardini (Doctor agronomist) we will cover the latest developments in Europe in the agricultural sector, we will also explore in depth through the debate with the experts what are the most immediate needs to guarantee adequate development for sustainable agriculture.

In the early years of European integration, the shared desire to improve food production and renew the agricultural sector led to the development of the common agricultural policy (CAP).

60 years later, the CAP is the longest-running European Union policy, offering crucial support to farms, rural areas and the entire agri-food system of the Union. This policy constitutes 31% of the total Union budget for the period 2021–2027.

The European Union’s latest proposals on agricultural policies have caused protest demonstrations by farmers in several European countries between the end of 2023 and the beginning of this year, so it is clear that a different approach is needed and greater sensitivity to build a project that sees greater protection of the environment and which guarantees sustainable agriculture while always paying high attention to those who live and work in this reality.

This is a sector that in our country but above all in our territory deserves great attention, farmers must be supported technically and financially to allow them to achieve the objectives of transition towards agricultural methods that respect the environment and the well-being of the consumer .

We think it is necessary to collect as much information as possible to enrich the agenda of those who from next June in Europe will face new programs for new laws to support agriculture that respects natural resources, which does not use polluting substances so as not to alter the environmental balance.

The meeting will be held Tuesdaynext May 14th at 9.00 pm at the headquarters of the Friends ofSolidarity Unit in via Cherubini.

Last Tuesday at the II circle in Marzocca there was a discussion on the topic of “Migrants” with Dr. Angeletti and Dr. Piazai, while on Tuesday 21 May in Vallone the topic “Work, what are the prospects from Italy to the European Union” will be addressed and following on Tuesday 28 May the 1st circle will close this cycle of debate meetings open to citizens.
