Free and equal: the second meeting at work

The practical step of the project Free and equal

The second working table of our project took place last May 10th, at number 7 via Festa del Perdono Free and equal. For a new idea of equalityin collaboration with the DiRe association – Women on the Net Against Violence – and the University of Milan. The theme? The work. And how to make it more inclusive, fair and safe for us women in practice. Free from all those obstacles which, as emerged from our Rights Observatory, slow us down at every stage of our career.

Work for women is still an obstacle course

At the beginning, when we have to choose the course of study and then face the hiring interviews (with related illegitimate questions). During, while we juggle office and care work like a tightrope walker (with lower salaries, sexist jokes and almost non-existent support). Even at the end, when we have to deal with the pension gap or a layoff which – as women over 50 – sinks us among those forgotten by the job market.

Merge the entries and separate the measures

For each of the issues that emerged from our survey we have identified concrete solutions. As? By putting the ideas, experiences and skills of a plurality of people and realities into dialogue: institutions, teachers, companies, writers, law experts, associations, anti-violence centers, students. And finally we, disseminators, with the task of uniting voices and separating measures, so that – conquest after conquest – work for women stops resembling an obstacle course. Follow us along the way!

The participants of the second working table

Our meeting at work involved representatives of different realities, in the belief that only by putting them in dialogue can we produce an even more effective action to combat violence and gender discrimination.
