Marsala and Petrosino start the fire prevention campaign

Both the municipalities of Petrosino and Marsala have issued the fire risk prevention ordinance which will be in force from 15 May to 31 October.

The two administrations ask for the collaboration of all citizens to respect the following provisions: do not pile waste or herbaceous residues near woods or uncultivated land; it is forbidden to light fires, explode mines, use open flame or electric devices to cut metals; do not use engines, stoves or incinerators that produce sparks or embers; smoking and throwing cigarette butts from passing vehicles are prohibited; do not use fireworks outside designated areas; burning stubble, herbaceous material, brushwood and pruning residues is prohibited; avoid any operation that could cause fire.

The owners, tenants or managers of agricultural land will have to keep the land clean, eliminating brush, brambles and dry vegetation, clean a strip of at least 20 meters from the road slope of any combustible material and remove dry vegetation around the buildings and from property boundaries for a band of at least 10 metres.

Failure to comply with the provisions will be subject to fines of up to 700 euros. Anyone who spots a fire must report it immediately.
