For the second time the breakaway arrived at the 2024 Giro d’Italia. The Spanish Pelayo Sanchez won the sixth stage, 180 km from Viareggio to Rapolano terme. The standard bearer of Movistar is imposed in the sprint on the Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe and on the Australian Lucas Plapp, together with whom he had attacked from distance and had fueled the attempt on the dirt road, then holding well on the wall in the final with peaks of 20%.
Fourth place for Andrea Piccolo at 24”, who at the end left the group of the best (at 29”), regulated by the Ecuadorian Jhonatan Narvaez. Slovenian Tadej Pogacar retains the pink jersey as leader of the general classification. All the other big names together, including the British Geraint Thomas. Antonio Tiberi responded well.
