The bulletin issued by the Statistics Office regarding the performance of the first quarter of the year once again provides a snapshot of a country where the demographic winter risks becoming increasingly severe.

Adding to what is certainly not a positive balance is the data on emigrants: 25 San Marino citizens have chosen to leave the country together with 19 residents with Italian citizenship.
Reading these data it is impossible not to wonder what San Marino is doing to retain its young people, with what prospects and what it is putting in place that is truly feasible and structured to increase the birth rate.
On the other hand, the employment numbers seem to at least partially contradict the picture of a country that is no longer growing, but a more careful reading reveals that many workers are cross-border workers.
The number of businesses also increased by 85 units. It is no coincidence, given the increase in the longevity of the San Marino people, that among these there are 10 companies in the ‘Health and Social Assistance’ sector; Here, however, a more in-depth reflection, which we will not fail to develop, is necessary, especially in light of our universal and free healthcare system.
The numbers are known: they can be merciless and inconvenient but they always tell an objective reality.
Today there is a huge issue linked to the impoverishment of work from which unfortunately San Marino is not immune.
Those who leave or don’t have children perhaps no longer see a future. The time has come for issues of this magnitude to be considered priorities for real change before there is no longer any country to change.”
