Procession of Jabil workers through the streets of Marcianise, yesterday morning, Wednesday 8 May 2024. The workers of the Marcianise plant of the American multinational are asking for the support of public opinion and politicians, so that concrete action can be taken on the dispute that has involved them for years . Last April 30th the company officially communicated to Mimit (Ministry of Business and Made in Italy) its intention to leave Marcianise and Italy for economic reasons.
“We do not believe that it is tolerable – explain the union representatives – that yet another multinational, after having acquired local technologies and professionalism, abandons it, nor have we found convincing the way in which the Mimit And Invitalia they spoke to us about resettlement prospects, also given the still unresolved previous failures (Softlab And Goldsmith). The participation of the mayor of Marcianise and the municipal council in the event is an important signal, but it is necessary for the Region and Government to establish strategies to prevent the abandonment of the territory by the company, considering that the electronics sector is a sector for nothing in crisis and that Caserta constitutes in terms of professionalism and history, a strategic place that requires an industrial vision and a credible and long-term development plan, safeguarding the employment perimeter which involves 450 workers. We will continue to fight with workers in all locations and with all the democratic tools of struggle that we have at our disposal, it is not acceptable that our territory is marked by a destiny of productive abandonment in which the only tools at our disposal are social safety nets and incentives for individuals without industrial prospects”. Yesterday morning, on the sidelines of the event, we interviewed the general secretary of Fiom CGIL Caserta Francis Percoco.
