Giorgetti: «Superbonus like Vajont» and spreads it over 10 years

The Superbonus credits will be compulsorily paid in 10 years instead of 4. This was announced yesterday by the Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti in the Finance Committee of the Senate where a decree is being discussed which will try to remedy the effects of a measure whose impact on Public debt was yesterday defined by Giorgetti as «like Vajont». “We put the dam in place, but the avalanche had already started,” he said. The representation outraged the opposition. “He could have saved himself,” said Five Star Stefano Patuanelli. «Apologise» added Francesco Boccia (Pd). The mayor of Erto, one of the towns hit by the 1963 tragedy, recalled that there had been “two thousand deaths”.

For Giuseppe Conte (Cinque Stelle), staunch defender of a very problematic measure, half of the tax credit portfolio is “attributable to the Meloni government” and its “Gruyere measures”. “Tens of thousands of businesses will fail” predicted the Democratic Party. Yesterday this was also the fear of artisan businesses who, with the Cna, expressed “strong concern” about the news announced and spoke of “penalizing measures”.

The editorial team recommends:

Superbonus, a lot of money for a few: 71 billion spent on 3.1% of buildings

Giorgetti said that “no provision can be retroactive”. If this were the case it would have “a devastating impact” on businesses, banks and citizens, said ANCE president Federica Brancaccio. The risk, we read in a joint note from the manufacturers together with the ABI, is undermining trust: instead we need to “provide certainty”.

The Meloni government has intervened a total of four times so far. He calculated that the credits from building bonuses amount to over 219 billion, 160 of which are caused by the Superbonus. For the Parliamentary Budget Office, spreading the credits over 10 years will allow the impact on the debt to be extended from the period 2024-27 to the following decade. This will cause an increase in debt between 2028-2033.

For Paolo Pennesi, director of the National Labor Inspectorate, in the post-Covid period there has been a recovery and notable growth in safety violations on construction sites «and in some cases, also induced by phenomena such as the 110% superbonus. In construction we reach percentages of irregularities of 93% and these are quite worrying figures.”
