Zwift increases prices by more than 30%

Zwift it is a platform of Cycling virtual, which allows users to compete online from home, through the use of special smart bike systems, capable of reproducing the intensity of the pedaling on the screen. This week the US company announced a price increase. The monthly subscription will go from 14.99 euros to 19.99 euros, while the annual one from 149.99 euros to 199.99 euros.

This is therefore a considerable increase, given that it exceeds 30%. These prices will go into effect immediately for new subscribers, while for existing users, the increase will take effect on the billing date after June 6th.

Zwift increases subscription prices: ‘Necessary to support the development of the platform’

The virtual cycling platform Zwift is the best known among enthusiasts, given the numerous possibilities it offers to interact with races and group training, exploring a multitude of different routes. To use it you need to sign up for a subscription, which has undergone the first price increase since 2017.

The US company, through a press release, justified this choice as follows: “In response to increasing costs and inflation, we have changed our registration fee to support the continuous development of our platform”. Zwift then underlined its commitment to further improve the user experience: “We are committed to offering additional user benefits, new gameplay features and content experiences in the months and years ahead.”

An increase in prices which could however lead to the loss of a share of users, given the growing competition in the sector. Among the new platforms that have emerged is MyWhooshwhich is currently free and has signed an agreement with the UCI to organize the Cycling Esports World Championships for the next three years, taking over from Zwift.

The Zwift Academy and Luca Vergallito’s transition to pro

Virtual and real cycling come together in Zwift Academy, the initiative launched in 2016 by the American company to reward the best riders with a professional contract. The winners of this competition, which takes place for both men and women, have the great opportunity to sign a professional contract with the top teams on the circuit.

Among the riders who have gone professional thanks to this system there is also the Italian Luca Vergallito, winner of the competition in 2022 and who moved to the Development Team of Alpecin-Deceuninck. Given the good results obtained last year, the 26-year-old native of Milan made the leap up the category this season, moving to the WorldTour team and also having the privilege of racing alongside world champion Mathieu van der Poel.
