46 years since the death of Aldo Moro: Piacenza remembers him with a Holy Mass

In memory of the martyrdom of the Honorable Aldo Moro and the men of his escort, barbarously murdered: Domenico Ricci, Oreste Leonardi, Raffaele Iozzino, Giulio Rivera and Francesco Zizzi,
Thursday 9 May at 6.00 pm at the church of San Corrado Confalonieri in Piacenza – via Lanza, 58/B Don Franco Capelli will celebrate a Holy Mass for his memory.

46 years ago, the May 9, 1978, the body of Aldo Moro murdered by the Red Brigades was found in Rome, in via Caetani, after 55 days of imprisonment; in honor and memory of him with the Law of 4 May 2007, nr. 56, Parliament dedicated May 9th as “Remembrance Day” for the victims of domestic and international terrorism and the massacres of this kind. The day was established to remember and give the country’s recognition to the victims as well as moral support and human closeness to their families.

Aldo Moro (Maglie, 23 September 1916 – Rome, 9 May 1978) was an Italian politician, academic and jurist, twice President of the Council of Ministers, Political Secretary and president of the national council of the Christian Democrats.
A fervent Catholic, in 1935 he joined the Italian Catholic University Federation of Bari, soon making a name for himself at a national level. In July 1939 he was chosen, on the advice of Giovanni Battista Montini, of whom he became a friend in those years, as national president of the Association. He held the position until 1942, when he was called up to arms, first as an infantry officer, then as air force commissioner. After a few years of academic career, in 1943 in Bari, with some friends, he founded the periodical La Rassegna which was published until 1945. In July of the same year he took part in the work that led to the drafting of the Camaldoli Code.

Remembering Aldo Moro means remembering the greatest statesman, on a par with Alcide De Gasperi, of our country: among the founders of the Christian Democracy and its representative in the Constituent Assembly, he first became secretary (1959) and then president (1976) and was several times minister; five times President of the Council of Ministers.
Remembering Aldo Moro also wants to be an opportunity to re-propose the consideration of the values that determined the choices of a politician from whom loyalty to his Christian inspiration required the sacrifice of his life.
The dimension of man can be grasped from the words he used in 1944, when at the end of the war, most Italians looked with concern at the future and wondered what needed to be done to face the future, said Aldo Moro: ” And now? Where to start again? Now we have to travel a long and difficult road: we must, in fact, rebuild. Let’s start here. Let’s all get back to doing our duty with simplicity. Whoever has to study, studies. Whoever has to teach, let him teach. Whoever has to work, work. Anyone who has to do active politics should do it with the same simplicity of heart with which they do every daily job. Mothers and fathers should educate their children. And no one claims to do more or better than this. Because this is truly loving the country and humanity.”
These are words that we need even today to look at our future with the certainty that everything depends on us, on each of us, on the sense of responsibility and commitment that we are able to put in place.
