Riccione. Evicted, he sets himself on fire in protest: admitted to Bufalini

He is evicted and sets himself on fire in protest. It happened yesterday afternoon around 4.30pm in Riccione, in Viale Milano at number 3, where a 47-year-old man of Albanian origin doused himself with liquid – it seems he used a fuel can – and set himself on fire in front of the wife.

The man, who suffered burns over 70% of his body, was rescued by some passers-by on the street who then called 118 and the police. Staff from the Ceccarini hospital intervened on site, but the 47-year-old was then transported to Bufalini in Cesena. His life is not in danger.

The police are investigating

The Carabinieri of Riccione are investigating the extreme gesture of the Albanian, who lives permanently in the city, works as a waiter and is married to a Romanian citizen. According to an initial reconstruction, the 47-year-old has been living with his wife since January in an apartment in Viale Milano, a very central area of Riccione. After paying a deposit of 2 thousand euros and a monthly rent of 1 thousand, he found himself evicted from one day to the next.

Suddenly about ten days ago, he returned home to find the lock on the house changed and all the things piled up on the landing. Since that day, he and his wife have lived on the landing in front of the apartment he claims. Now the police are ascertaining if and how things are with the owner of the property or whoever has the accommodation available. In fact, it seems that the couple, before being evicted, also turned to the Financial Police to whom they presented a verbal complaint.

The crux of the contract

The lack – according to them – of a regular rental contract would also weigh on their condition. In short, without a contract the couple could be accused of having illegally occupied the apartment even in light of the payment slips and payments made.

Yesterday afternoon, the 47-year-old, after breaking a glass bottle containing an alcoholic drink, perhaps drunk to give himself courage, threw diesel fuel from head to toe and set himself on fire with a lighter. He is at the Bufalini hospital in Cesena, while his wife is hospitalized in shock at the Ceccarini hospital in Riccione.
