There are many opportunities for young people to enter the world of work but unfortunately they are not known to everyone. For this reason the European Federalist Youth rib of European Federalist Movement, is committed to protecting the education of young European citizens. The GFE youth organization was born in Milan in 1943 by Altiero Spinelli. The objective is to create a European Federation and the principles which inspire it are contained in the Ventotene Manifesto, drawn up in 1941 by Altiero Spinelli, Ernesto Rossi and Eugenio Colorni. Following federalist thinking, theVentotene Island for 43 years it has hosted an annual political training seminar on the history and future of European integration.
The project is designed specifically for young people, who will have the opportunity to meet the highest state officials and important political figures. Participants are selected through meetings held by GFE/MFE and will end with the creation of written papers for participation in a competition that will award scholarships to cover the costs of the Seminar. The participants will be 150 young people from Italy and Europe, who will be engaged in an intense week of meetings, debates and conferences from 1 to 6 September 2024.
The objective of GFE is to raise awareness among young citizens of the importance of voting and guide them towards healthy political education. “We try to fill that gap, which has been created since there is no compulsory teaching in school curricula on citizenship education. Many young people graduate without ever having had a real approach to the institutions and their rights. Many 18-year-olds will go to vote for the first time in view of the European elections and it is not easy to understand what their role is with respect to the future of the European Union, and we are trying to fit into this” he claims Giorgia SorrentinoGeneral Secretary of the European Federalist Youth
The GFE also organizes several regional seminars, as well as workshops, debates and conferences. “An opportunity also to get to know our peers, who know how to inspire us in a profound way” .
