(ANSA) – MEXICO CITY, 07 MAY – Mexico City has been awarded the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize 2024, a biennial international cash prize of 300 thousand dollars awarded on the basis of exceptional contributions to the creation of vibrant, livable and sustainable around the world.
The recognition takes its name from the historic prime minister of Singapore, who in just a few decades helped transform the Southeast Asian metropolis into a unique, clean and green city. Some of the cities that received the award before the Mexican capital are Vienna (2020), Seoul (2018), Medellín (2016), Suzhou (2014) and New York (2012). Among the reasons that determined the choice, the ‘Centros pilares’ stand out, which promote community development, the ‘Mi beca’ program to encourage the level of basic education, free access to the largest city internet network on the planet, the ‘Movilidad integral’ card and the Iztapalapa district cable car.
