Arge Alp Elderly, cross-border meeting on the Europe of peace, civil rights and solidarity

“Europe is close to our hearts”. This is the title of the cross-border meeting that will be held on the morning of Friday 10 May in Brennero at the Plessi Museo al Brennero. The initiative, organized by the pensioner unions of Alto Adige, Trentino, Lombardy, Ticino and Tyrol, will be dedicated to the themes of peace, civil rights, active ageing, work and generational solidarity. Speakers will include the FNP-CISL general secretary Emilio Didonè, the SVP MEP Herbert Dorfmann and the secretary of the ÖGB pensioners Monika Kemperle.
It will be an opportunity for discussion to also talk about the anti-European and nationalist political forces that risk undermining the democratic foundations of Europe. In fact, Arge Alp Anziani rejects the idea of a Europe centered on economic globalization, which is divisive and often closed to ongoing social dynamics. The president of Arge Alp Anziani, Walter Bernardi, therefore asks for a new social pact: “The constant strengthening, within the Union, of far-right political forces forces us all together to promote a culture of memory in a of international collaboration, but also between macro-regions. Creating a culture of memory of what Nazi-fascism and fascism was means sending clear messages to citizens about who we are, which side we are on, where we want to go and with what values we want to build”.
