Michela Andretta died after surgery for an ear angioma: three doctors under investigation

A death shrouded in mystery: Michela Andretta last Friday she entered the Fabia Mater clinic in Prenestino for the removal of an angioma in her left ear. She then died of cardiac arrest. After the complaint from the family of the 28-year-old from Acilia, the prosecutor’s office opened an investigation. And now three health workers from the facility have been registered on the register of suspects: the anesthetist Trembiskaya Kseniathe surgeon Francesco Stillowho had performed the surgery to remove the angioma, and the doctor Gianpietro Bianchini.

The charge for the three is that of manslaughter and professional medical negligence (article 590 sexies). This is an act required in view of the expert investigations ordered by the prosecutor’s office to establish the causes of death.

The autopsy on the body of the girl, who worked as a “lash artist”, will be carried out today and the results will be made known within sixty days. Also the family of the young woman, defended by the lawyer Marina Colella, has appointed its own medical examiner. «From what we understand – assures Colella – Michela was absolutely not worried about this operation. The family members are still in shock and rightly want to know what happened.”

The investigations ordered by the prosecutor Francesco Paolo Marinaro will clarify several aspects. The first concerns the nature of the angioma and the methods of operation, to ascertain any errors in the operating room. Then the young woman’s clinical situation will be explored in depth, to understand if she suffers from allergies. And finally, checks will be carried out on the health facility in via Olevano Romano.

It was the victim’s boyfriend who filed the complaint at the Centocelle police station, Andrea Carboni, youth football coach. The couple had been together for nine years and had recently moved in together in Acilia. Carboni, like all the family members, asks for full light to be shed on the whole affair. Starting from the operation to remove the angioma, which began around 12 and ended in the most unexpected way: «They called us telling us that she had died of cardiac arrest. Not even the doctors could explain why. This is why we ask that justice be done to her. Before entering that clinic, Michela, she was fine.”
