Michela died at the age of 28 after an operation in the clinic. And now an autopsy has been ordered to understand what went wrong during the surgery. And, above all, if Michela Andretta she could have been saved.
The case
Michela on the day of Friday 3 May she went to the clinic Fabia Mater, in Rome, for the removal of an angioma behind the ear. She was accompanied to the clinic by her partner and her parents. At around 12pm the operation began and shortly afterwards the medical staff informed the family that the 28-year-old had died of cardiac arrest. The boyfriend, a few hours after the tragedy, went to the Carabinieri barracks at the Centocelle station and filed a complaint against the Roman clinic.
The complaint
To file a complaint for “death and personal injury in the healthcare sector” Andrea Carboni, former footballer. Having informed the public prosecutor’s office, the police who collected the complaint went to the Fabia Mater clinic and seized the 28-year-old’s medical records.
The autopsy
Tuesday 7 May forensic doctors will perform an autopsy on the 28-year-old’s body. By Saturday 11 May the body will be returned to the family, who will then have to decide on the day of the girl’s funeral. «At this moment the parents are devastated. It was an operation that we can define as almost routine and the fact that she died makes the family truly in shock at this moment. They still haven’t had an idea of how things might have gone, they can’t talk at the moment. They are destroyed and in disbelief”, she told the microphones of Fanpage.it the lawyer Marina Colella.
Conditions before surgery
Michela was in good health at the time of the surgery, as the lawyer confirmed to Fanpage.it. “As far as I know, he had no previous health problems.” The removal of an angioma – i.e. a benign skin lesion – is a routine operation that can also be performed in an outpatient clinic, without requiring hospitalization. Now the autopsy must clarify why for Michela Andretta a banal operation turned into a death trap.
