Yet another death at work: let’s stop this endless massacre

BRINDISI Uila intervenes in the aftermath of yet another tragedy that occurred in the workplace, specifically the SRB sugar factory in Brindisi. “Our first thoughts go to the victim’s family – declares the National Secretary of UILA, Gabriele De Gasperis – to whom we express our condolences and our closeness. However, alongside anger and pain, we feel the responsibility to ask, as we have done and as we will continue to do, for respect for people’s lives. It is necessary – continues De Gasperis – that the institutions and politics (understood in its entirety) do more to find effective and immediate solutions, in particular on the delicate issue concerning procurement”.

The General Secretary of UILA Puglia, Pietro Buongiorno states: “We need to strengthen prevention and training, increase inspections and the number of labor inspectors and spread the culture of prevention which often does not represent a priority. Countryside Zero deaths at work promoted by the UIL is not a symbol nor a propaganda slogan, it is a daily commitment that we ask for in all workplaces, aimed at stopping this massacre which continues to claim more and more victims every year”.

Luigi Vizzino, Territorial Secretary of the UILA of Brindisi also intervenes in this regard: “A drama, yet another, in an area with poor employment, in a company in which safety issues constitute a characterizing topic of trade union protection action. While waiting for the investigations to reveal the truth about the facts and the dynamics that generated it, we express our closeness and condolences to the family. We cry out the pain of the union and of all the workers involved in the plant who ask for truth and justice. You can’t die of work and for work we demand that there be more commitment and attention to issues of safety at work”.
