On Thursday 9 May, at 7pm, the Racconigi town hall will host a meeting aimed at local associations and all interested parties regarding the artistic installation “Revealed beauty: a path to liberation” by Sara Masoero, which can be visited until 19 May in the chapel of San Rocco.
Masoero and the curator Luisa Gastaldelli will present the installation, which aims to reveal, through contemporary art, the beauty of marginalized identities who lived for years, until the end of their lives, inside the former psychiatric hospital of Racconigi . Their stories were saved from oblivion thanks to meticulous historical research in the archives of the former civil hospital and now, 100 years after the birth of Franco Basaglia, they are exhibited and “liberated” through artistic combinations with photos of flowers.
Also speaking at the meeting will be Domenico Alessio and Bruno Crippa, former nurses of the Racconigi psychiatric hospital from 1972 to 1997, who will bring their testimony, useful and valuable for spreading knowledge and understanding of the mental hospital reality, central to the history of Racconigi up until not many years ago and whose memory it is important to preserve.
