After yesterday’s incident in via Tusciano in Battipaglia, with an apartment hit by a fire in which among other things a small dog lost its life, a demand is becoming increasingly stronger among citizens.
The rumor that for the moment is only on social media but is also taking shape in the real squares is about the activation of a Fire Brigade barracks in the city. Currently, the red helmets have their headquarters in Salerno and Eboli and interventions for Battipaglia start from one of these two barracks, with waiting times that can sometimes be very long. There are various cases about which citizens write, episodes for which the police obviously have no fault since they too, like other law enforcement agencies, have reduced staffing.
We are therefore thinking of launching a petition, as has happened in the past for other issues, to ask national leaders and local authorities to start the process for the creation of this city garrison. «Last year – this is the testimony of an internet user – my neighbour’s car caught fire and help arrived after more than half an hour. In that case, the Eboli units were already engaged and help had to arrive from Salerno.”
“Greater proximity could guarantee quicker intervention – says a woman – and in this specific case that poor life could have been saved”. Another voice is more rational: «we would simply need more units spread across the territory but there is no money. The reasoning should be much broader and more generalized – he continues – a garrison in the city would be excellent but its implementation is difficult if not impossible”.
This, therefore, becomes the present and certainly future debate in the city, especially in view of the summer season which will certainly lead to an increase in the resident population and with the high temperatures a greater risk of fires.
