SENIGALLIA, 03 MAY – Ten years after the flood in Senigallia (Ancona), which on 3 May 2014 flooded various areas of the city and the lower valley of the Misa river, causing three deaths and hundreds of millions of euros in damage, the community place is still deeply marked by that event. Many people relive those moments of fear and desperation “every time it rains”, anxieties that then increased with the flood of September 2022 – more victims, more water and mud in homes – and again a year ago. “We were not prepared for the flood” Cinzia Galluzzi, resident in the Molino Marazzana area, one of the most affected, told ANSA. “That night in 2014 it had rained a lot and early in the morning, when it was no longer raining, I went out: the traffic police were going to a supermarket near my house. They were there to warn the staff that the Misa river was about to flood. No one warned me or my family. Only when I asked for information, they told me what was about to happen, advising me to go to the upper floors. However – says Cinzia – we have a single-storey house. It was panic: we took the few things that are taken in these situations and we escaped. I later discovered that the area in which we have lived for about 16 years is considered a natural expansion basin”. The damages are notable, but the compensation is not so great. “With the flood of May 3, 2014, I had more than 100 thousand euros in damage, up to 2.30 meters of water in the house; I only received 16 thousand euros in reimbursement. We fixed up the house but in September 2022 we had the water that flooded everything, the second time 2.80 meters. We threw everything away again. We used the 5 thousand euros in compensation received so far to tidy up the electrical system and the primary things a little. necessity, but we stopped because nothing is known, we have no answers from the Region, whether ours will be an expropriation area, whether we will be given the possibility to move elsewhere. Now there are three of us renting in a two-room apartment. I don’t think so we can live continuously with anxiety – he adds -. All the people in this area cannot continue to live like this”.
