Toomaj Salehi is thirty-three years old, he is an Iranian rapper and last week he was sentenced to death by the ayatollah regime. On Foglio we translated two songs by Toomaj protest against the Islamic Republic of Iran, “Faal” And “Normal”.

“Someone’s crime was dancing with your hair in the wind. Someone else’s crime was being brave and criticizing. The day will come when you will attack each other.” “Faal”, Destiny, is a song about the fate of the Tehran regime and the revolution of the Iranian people:

Your destiny is full of blood and anger/Corpses of old, young and children/All your past is dark/You, the government that has taken the light from your eyes/I see a river in the future, I see prosperity and construction/ I see happy people. Watch! This is your row, the losers’ row!/I see that your money can’t do anything anymore/Weapons are no longer of any use to you/Both those of you who don’t matter a damn/Both your leaders have been arrested”

“Normal”, Normal, is instead a song that tells a story there “normality” of being Iranian today: “Yes, sir! Life is normal, a worker’s annual salary is worth a dinner abroad/Yes! Yes, sir! Life is normal, some are forced to sleep in tombs, others own ten skyscrapers/While the rest of the world supports its citizens,
our government called the protesters ‘insurrectionists”Did it stop at incarceration? No, he also committed atrocities / In the age of science, women are beaten for their beauty, thrown into the back of a police van, taken to nameless prisons /We are dead who cannot die”

Here is a remake of Toomaj Salehi’s song “Soorakh Moosh”, the song that led to his arrest And became popular worldwide in protests against the Islamic Republic of Iran. The remake is by the Uniters, a group that is working for Salehi’s release.

At the end of the video the Iranian rapper says: “You can clearly see the victory of the people. These arrests are useless, these killings are useless. It will get worse and worse, and the situation will benefit the people. Freedom is expensive, yes, freedom kills. But the day will come when we will achieve justice and individuality. And then peace.”
