“48 hours of Hockey”. This is the name of the initiative that will start next Saturday, May 4, and which will see the Engels Lambardi rink host two days of roller hockey. The event was organized by the Siena Hockey sports club in collaboration with Mariotti’s School.
It starts on Saturday 4 May at 10am with the highly specialized technical and skating stage (by reservation) reserved for the under 11 and under 13 categories. The stage, which will continue until mid-afternoon, will be held by Massimo Mariotti, (champion coach of Europe club 2006 with Follonica hockey and 2014 European champion coach of the Italian national team) and athletes are expected from Follonica, Grosseto, Prato, Viareggio and Sarzana.
At 5.30pm it will be the turn of the little ones with the open day aimed at boys and girls aged 4 to 10 who want to try skating and playing with the cue together with the instructors and athletes of Siena Hockey.
Finally, the 3-team tournament of veterans of the Sienese club, the so-called “Slacker Tournament 2024”, will begin at 6.30 pm.
The 48 hours of hockey will then end on Sunday with a new daily internship at Mariotti’s school.
The Siena Hockey club invites citizens to discover a little-known sport in our city despite the fact that hockey was already talked about in Siena at the beginning of the 1900s. Until 1999, hockey was a section of the Polisportiva Mensana, and the latter is was one of the 4 teams to participate in the first rink hockey championship which was organized in Rome in 1932. Today “Siena hockey” has 2 competitive teams, the Under 11 and the Under 13, born after the forced stop which involved everyone during Covid, and a nice group of children from the introductory course who will take part in the Mini Hockey rallies from next year
