Giorgia Meloni is furious: the attack is direct, she didn’t mince her words

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni launches herself against a “fad” in the automotive market that she really doesn’t like. Listen to what she said.

The world of politics and motoring probably isn’t never been so close as in this moment historical in Italy, as proven by many events linked to current events. The Meloni Government was one of the few to speak directly about road safety in its inauguration speech, for example. Furthermore, we have the topic of the New Highway Code now close to coming into force studied by the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

Another important issue addressed by the Meloni Government concerns the dispute with the Stellantis Group which started a very long controversy – we spoke about it on several occasions – in which the managers of the multinational giant complained about the insufficient incentives provided by the Government, accusing it of having part of the responsibility for the failure to take off the sales of electric cars. The Government responded in kind accusing Carlos Tavares and his team of having brought its turnover outside Italy, to countries such as Poland or other nations.

The hottest topic these days, however, concerns certainly the ecological transition which is promoted by the European Union, a type of policy to which our country is not opposed, however asking for greater incentives towards the sales of electric cars and guarantees regarding alternatives to electric propulsion which however now exist throughout the world.

Heavy words from Giorgia Meloni on electric…

In the rest of the world, many big brands have experimented with or they are trying to introduce alternative systems to fuel cars so as to pollute much less or not at all; as we know, however, if there is a country that has invested massively in electric cars and could now corner all its rivals on the market, it is China.

Electric cars are suicide according to the Government and the reason is easy to say (Ansa) – Fuoristrada.it

This is why the words pronounced by Premier Meloni and reported among others by Engines on Engines they seem to be an attack on a European policy that indirectly favors the colossal eastern nation: “To claim the opposite is simply idiocystates the Premier, recalling that there are alternatives to the production of electric cars alone, ignoring the various biofuels, hydrogen, hybrid cars and the many other experiments still underway on non-polluting cars not on tap.

The President would later press on this point, speaking of “suicidal idiocy” at the time it helps an economy which certainly does not serve European interests: “Electric vehicles are produced by nations that do not even remotely respect the environmental constraints imposed on our companies”his words which here too, seem to refer without an explicit citation to China and perhaps to India, now established in the market.

The danger that to produce low cost electric cars countries like these – and not only that, be careful not to get lost in dangerous stereotypes – base their economy on very low wages for workers, non-ecological practices in the production and disposal of batteries or commercial practices that are not consistent with European values, in short, it is concrete and should not undervalued according to the politician. At least, this is what seems to emerge from his strong statements in line with the Government and the ministers.
