TURIN, 02 MAY – Manneh Nafugi was the name of the eighteen-year-old asylum seeker originally from Gambia who died this morning in Alessandria hospital. The death occurred following injuries sustained during the fight that broke out in Canelli, in the province of Asti, last Tuesday evening 30 April. His alleged attacker, a 34-year-old Pakistani man, is currently detained at the Quarto d’Asti prison awaiting validation of his arrest. He has been charged with murder since this morning. According to initial reconstructions, the Pakistani, with some accomplices, one of whom has already been stopped by the Carabinieri of Canelli’s company, attacked Manneh with chains and sticks. A steel chain, of the kind used to tie bicycles or scooters, would have turned out to be the murder weapon. Already on Tuesday evening, Manneh’s condition appeared very serious and the timely intervention of the air ambulance and the immediate transport of the injured man to the Alessandria hospital were of no avail. Hit on the head with the steel chain, the young Gambian died this morning. At the origin of the brawl there were apparently disagreements that developed within the Cas-centre of extraordinary reception in Cassinasco, a small village not far from Canelli, where all those involved in the brawl lived.
