In recent days there have been heavy floods in part of Brazil and in particular in Rio Grande do Sulwhere they are counted at least 10 victims (two of which in the town of Paverama) and several still missing. In several cases the rescue operations had to be carried out with helicopters, given the gravity of the situation, with at least 1500 people still to be rescued. Particularly difficult situation in the Candelaria area, where residents have taken refuge on the roofs of their houses. Collapsed bridges and impassable roads make rescue operations even more complicated.

Rio Grande do Sul is located on the southernmost tip of Brazil, on the border with Uruguay. In recent days it has been affected by an intense disturbance, fueled by the clash between cold air masses of Antarctic origin with the very hot and humid air masses present over much of Brazil, of a tropical and subtropical nature. The slow evolution of the front, together with the marked thermal contrasts, has thus caused intense and persistent rainfall and unfortunately it is not over: further rainfall, sometimes intense, is expected, in particular in the first part of next week due to a new disturbance.
