Chieuti: a long-awaited clarification from all citizens. After controversies, writings, insults and comments that appeared on social media, the response from the Mayor of Chieuti, Diego Iacono, arrived in reference to the decision taken regarding the order of arrival of the Race on 22 April.
Throughout the afternoon many people from the yellow and red wagonor and many citizens waited for the verdict in front of the Municipality, protected by a cordon of Carabinieri, with the arrival soon after of the State Police in anti-riot equipment.
The mayor’s indictment was very harsh and thorough, from which very worrying facts emerged that should not be underestimated.
“The four floats, says the Mayor, days before the race asked to change the rules for the departure. I didn’t agree, but For to meet them I accepted by changing the rules. It was certainly much easier to leave as it was done before but I accepted by sharing this desire.”
The new starting method itself caused problems because in the Mayor’s Decree we read: “during the starting operations, the writer was unable to pronounce the starting formula, as the first three wagons left anticipating the Mayor’s order , the only float left waiting for the Mayor’s order was the float of the Giovanissimi”.

The winning wagon would turn out to be that of the Giovanissimi.
But it wasn’t like that, because after the race under the Municipal headquarters many people belonging to the La Cittadella float crowded together and loudly claimed victory for having reached the finish line first. In the same Decree, the Mayor “in order to avoid public order disorders, which would also have jeopardized the continuation of the patronal festival in honor of San Giorgio Martire, as well as nullifying all the work carried out in recent years for the Carrese di Chieuti, decided to grant the victory to the La Cittadella float, without merit, as despite arriving first at the finish line it was among the floats to be disqualified”.
The Decree ends with lto the proclamation of the winning wagon La Cittadella for the protection of public order. This decision was also taken by the presidents of the four floats and even the two contenders shook hands at the end, showing wisdom and foresight for the future protection of the Race itself. A demonstration of absolute maturity.
“Also pFor this I want to thank all the members of the four tanks who had a very clean run, without any kind of problem and above all nothing happened to anyone. Thank you all”, says the mayor.
Precisely on this point in his speech the Mayor starts with his accusations against pseudo-politicians ambitious who use the race for their own purposes propaganda and to discredit those who work hard to organize this demonstration.
“Hands offlla Corsa, he says, enough with these exploitations that damage not my person but the Corsa itself, nullifying all the sacrifices made in recent yearsby the undersigned and the municipal administration to bring the event back to the town. This underhanded behavior does not sit well with me and does not sit well with me to the wagons and not even to the people of Chieuti. I am pleased that the minority group has asked for a single-issue City Council onLthe Corsa question. So we’ll see what they think and I’m happy to ask some questions too. On purpose, I’m still waiting for a counselor of the opposition estimates to prepare the security plan. Months passed but they never arrived.”
The real problem that deserves a very serious study are the scuffles broke out after the race. A story with many very serious details, the throwing of glasses full of sparkling wine, beer or other things at state officials, the police and the Mayor himself.
These facts they have escaped many on social media and must always be condemned.
“Four scalmed down, wretched people, as he defines them, who have destroyed everything that has been built. You are the real scoundrels who question the demonstration and if there are problems tomorrow it is your fault alone and you have to keep it entirely and do your mea culpa at home and be ashamed for what you have done to the institutions, because that minority does not represent the people of Chieuti but is the shame of the same people Chieutino. I decided not to involve the police because among those people there were also women and children. CWhat would have happened if the police and riot police intervened?”
The real problem is that this story it will last a long time. Surely, from the videos acquired, all the necessary investigations will be carried out to identify all those responsible. It is not possible to throw everything at the person who represents the State at that moment. And the State cannot condescend to such serious behavior.
It is understood that the issue is not closed, and this is also evident from the phone call from the Police Commissioner to the Mayor.
Will there be measures? We will see.
It’s sad to comment on these things. Unfortunately it is that as a community Not you can achieve that unity of purpose. Being a “supportive community” is that what is needed to move forward. Thus no step forward will be made, regardless of the mayors who succeed each other in the future.
We will never grow up like this.
A beautiful celebration tainted by these episodes. Maybe many don’t realize it, but they will when heavy decisions come from afar, they don’t realize that they could ruin their lives, they don’t realize that perhaps the Race has collapsed foreverhoping the opposite of course.
