Over a million euros to meet the request to remove architectural barriers in Umbria.

The Regional Council of Umbria has determined the regional requirement for the 2023/2024 year relating to new applications for contributions for the elimination of architectural barriers in private buildings to be over 1 million and 178 thousand euros.
The requirement is aimed at supporting 563 interventions, of which 441 to be implemented in the province of Perugia and 122 in that of Terni, mainly intended for the installation of stairlifts (with a percentage of approximately 64%).
It was calculated by the Department of Housing Policies on the basis of the requests that the Municipalities sent to the Region, taking into account the requests produced by citizens as of 1 March 2024 for the granting of the contributions established by law 13/1989 for the construction of works in existing buildings aimed at guaranteeing accessibility, adaptability and visitability to those with permanent impairments or functional limitations, to those who depend on them and to the condominiums where the beneficiaries reside.
In order to satisfy all requests for contributions, after having verified the availability of approximately 249,350 euros as savings from the two previous years, the Region will communicate a resource requirement of approximately 929,300 euros to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport responsible for the allocation of resources .
Together with the request for participation in the distribution of the Fund for overcoming architectural barriers, the Region will send the Ministry the annual reports on the results achieved in the previous two years.
In the 2021-2022 year, there were 276 applications to be satisfied (230 in the province of Perugia and 46 in that of Terni), of which approximately 78% for interventions involving the installation of lifts/hoists and lifting platforms, the 20% for interventions to adapt the spaces inside the home, and a residual part of just over 2% for further eligible interventions, with a regional requirement of over 1 million euros. While awaiting the interministerial decree for the allocation and distribution of resources, the Region has assigned and paid to the requesting Municipalities the sum of over 908 thousand euros available in the regional budget.
In the 2022-2023 year, the applications received by the Municipalities were 310 (255 in the province of Perugia and 55 in that of Terni), of which approximately 78% for interventions involving the installation of lifts/hoists and lifting platforms, 15% for interventions to adapt the spaces inside the home, and a residual part of just over 7% for further eligible interventions. To ensure consistency in the provision of resources to the Municipalities, and therefore to the citizens who benefit from the contributions, in 2023 the Region assigned and paid the Municipalities a total sum of over 1 million and 148 thousand euros.
