European elections, Liguria in the field: the local candidates

The filing of the lists and symbols begins to clarify the scenario that the Ligurian voters will find on the ballot for the renewal of the European Parliament. We vote with pure proportional representation with a threshold of 4%, which on the one hand accentuates fragmentation and on the other forces modest-sized forces to form a consortium to overcome the arithmetic bar.

There are quite a few candidates of Ligurian origin, however forced by the electoral system and the configuration of the constituency (which also includes Piedmont, Lombardy and Valle d’Aosta) to form a consortium with Piedmontese and Lombard candidates, following the mechanism of gender preference: two women and a man, or two men and a woman.

IN the morning the candidates of “United States of Europe” were made official, an electoral cartel which includes, among other things, Italia Viva and +Europa: the parliamentarian from La Spezia is in third place on the list Raffaella Paita. Yesterday the name of Frederick Jacobcouncilor of the Media Val Bisagno Municipality, left +Europa to enter Action where together with Cristina Lodimunicipal councilor of Genoa, and the entrepreneur Riccardo De Giorgi will represent Liguria in the movement’s lists Carlo Calendawhich in turn lifted the reservation on the candidacy.

As regards the centre-right forces, Fratelli d’Italia is focusing on the group leader in the regional council Stefano Balleariwhile the League fields a veteran like Francesco Bruzzonenow a parliamentarian but with long experience in the institutions and in the party, and the Genoese municipal councilor Lorenza Rosso. As for Forza Italia, it is back in the running Luigi Grillofrom La Spezia, several times undersecretary and parliamentarian.

The Democratic Party proposes La Spezia again Brando Benifeioutgoing head of delegation in Strasbourg, the writer and journalist Donatella Alfonsomunicipal councilor in Genoa, e Lucia Artusi, former municipal councilor in Sanremo. The Five Star Movement is running again Mariangela Danzì and three candidates resulting from the online selection: Isabella Parini, Fabio Romano And Jean François Boudard. The Greens and Left Alliance appear on the list Daniele Cicala for the ecological component e Simona Cosso of the Italian Left.

As for the other lists, while waiting for the representatives of “United States of Europe”, the lawyer presents himself Marco Mori in the “Freedom” list, the Genoese journalist and communicator Silvia Stefani for “Sovereign and Popular Democracy”, Bice Parodi And Maria Rita Lagostena in the “Peace earth dignity” list by Michele Santoro.
