Spring is synonymous with rebirth, loves, colors but also many interesting news: fromMay 5th until December 15th you will be able to experience the thrill of taking a journey from other times on 1930s carriages, the so-called “Centoporte”, with wooden lounges and window curtains, perfectly preserved, equipped with trunk and hat racks and pulled by steam locomotives , electric or diesel, among the wonders of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Historic trains to discover Friuli Venezia Giulia
After the success of the proposal, which was sold out last season, the historic trains that lead to the discovery of the wonders of Friuli Venezia Giulia are back. From UNESCO sites to the “Most beautiful villages in Italy”, from seaside villages to historical re-enactments, from guided itineraries to festivals and major sporting events, this is an initiative that involves collaboration between the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the FS Foundation with the operational technical support of PromoTurismoFVG.
The objectives are to promote the territory and encourage rail transport in favor of a T modelmore sustainable tourism, thanks to a wide and quality offer, a special rate that includes free land programs, such as guided tours and nature activities, and the possibility of bringing your bicycle with you.
May trains
On May 5th you will be able to board the Belle Epoque train which will take passengers departing from Sacile to Cormons, and then to Gorizia. Here everyone will have the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the historic center of the Isonzo capital, and also to have a tasting in an unmissable cellar.
On May 12th, however, it will be the turn of Unesco Cities Train which will travel from Trieste to Palmanova and Cividale del Friuli, leaving guests the opportunity to discover atmospheres, routes, history and monuments of the starry city and the first Lombard duchy in Italy. Included free of charge for passengers will be guided tours of Palmanova and Cividale del Friuli.
Many wonders can also be discovered on May 19th, when the Orchid Train headed to Osoppo, on the occasion of the Orchid Festival. It will instead be directed to Sacile on Garden Train, which on May 26th will leave from Trieste to discover the natural and oenological riches of this area of the region on the occasion of the “Cantine Aperte” event.
The historic trains of June
In June appointment on the 9th, the day on which you can board the “Ottavio Bottecchia” he was born in “Trota in Festa” train, which will arrive from Pordenone to Trasaghis and will lead passengers along the routes of the great cyclist on the occasion of the centenary of his first victory in the Tour de France.
On June 16th, however, the will depart from Portogruaro Train between Lagoon and Sea with a first stop in Marano Lagunare and subsequent arrival in Miramare, where you can take a free guided tour inside the castle park dedicated to its most iconic points.
Don’t miss June 23rd Resurgence and Stella train, which will leave from Trieste towards Palazzolo dello Stella for a trip between history and nature, visiting the historic center of Palazzolo dello Stella and the biodiversity of the lagoon.
The month will close on June 30th Terre dell’Altolivenza train, departing from Sacile and arriving in Budoia-Polcenigo to discover this land straddling the upper course of the Livenza,
July departures
Many departures also in July, and starting with Folkest train which will get on the tracks on the 7th of the month from Trieste, and with destination San Daniele del Friuli, on the occasion of the event Folkest – international folk music festival.
On Sunday 14th July it will be the turn of the Train to discover Pinzano al Tagliamento and the Val d’Arzino, departing from Sacile and arrival in Pinzano al Tagliamento where you can dedicate yourself to many (and different) outdoor activities or cultural itineraries such as, for example, the guided walking excursion to Castello.
It will instead depart from Pordenone on 21 July Unesco Cities Train towards Palmanova and Aquileia, to discover the historical and cultural richness that makes them a UNESCO world heritage site.
The month will end with Train of castles and mosaics, which on 28 July will take passengers departing from Sacile to Spilimbergo on a fascinating journey along the tracks of the Pedemontana Railway to discover Travesio.
The trains of August, September and October
On August 3, the historic train will depart from Trieste to Gemona del Friuli Tempus express on the occasion of Tempus est Jocundum, the historical event that every year repopulates the streets of the city with medieval figures and environments. On August 11th the Friulian Dolomites trainwhich from Sacile will reach Montereale Valcellina and Barcis crossing the evocative natural landscapes of Friuli.
September will get off to a great start right away: on the first day of the month you will be able to board the Train of the most beautiful villages in Italywhich from Sacile will lead to Travesio with intermediate stops in some of the most beautiful villages in Italy: Polcenigo, Poffabro and Toppo.
On 8 September he will leave Udine Train to discover the villages of the Pordenone plainheaded to Casarsa della Delizia, “town of storms and primroses” for a journey in the footsteps of Pier Paolo Pasolini and with the possibility of visiting the historic centers of San Vito al Tagliamento and Cordovado.
The Pordenonelegge trainwhich will ply the tracks on 21 September, will instead have two different departures: one from Treviso and one from Trieste, but from both destinations it will reach Pordenone on the occasion of the annual book festival.
In October, and more precisely on the 6th, it will be the turn of Train flavors of autumn which will connect Treviso to Cavasso Nuovo for the Cavasso Nuovo Red Onion Festival, while on 20 October the San Simone Fair Train from Treviso to Codroipo related to the San Simone di Codroipo Fair with the possibility of visiting the area by bike once you get off.
Pumpkin and warm autumn colors lovers will find what they want on October 27th thanks to Train to discover Venzone or Zuccaa trip from Trieste to Venzone for the annual Pumpkin Festival.
November and December by train
November will open on Saturday 4th with the inevitable appointment on the sacred places of the Great War with the Train of the Great Warwhich will connect Trieste to Redipuglia on the occasion of National Unity and Armed Forces Day, where the commemoration ceremony of all the soldiers who fell during the First World War will take place and at the end of which passengers will be able to take part in a guided tour.
Sunday 10th November will be the turn of Cheese Train, departing from Sacile and arriving in Gemona, on the occasion of “Gemona, cheese… and surroundings”, a large exhibition-market of dairy producers and typical regional and Italian food and wine products.
The last two dates on the calendar will be those of December, totally dedicated to pre-Christmas traditions: Tuesday 5 December Krampus Train it will depart from Trieste towards Tarvisio on the occasion of the feast of San Nicola and the traditional masked outing of the Krampus through the streets of the city; on December 15th instead Train of nativity scenes and Christmas markets it will connect Gemona del Friuli to Poffabro for a visit to the nativity scenes, it will continue to Polcenigo – with a stop in Maniago – and then to Sacile – Budoia station – for an itinerary focused on discovering the villages with a visit to the typical nativity scenes and Christmas markets.
Costs and useful information
This unmissable initiative is offered at a promotional price and a fixed rate, regardless of the length of the route travelled. The price of a one-way or return ticket on electric or diesel locomotive trains is for adults 5 €, children from 4 to 12 years of age pay 2.50 euros, while those under the age of 4 travel for free.
For trains with a steam locomotive the return price for adults is 15 euros and 7.50 euros for children from 4 to 12 years of age, children from 0 to 4 years of age are free.
