VIENNA, 30 APRIL – Ambassador Debora LeprePermanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, hosted a meeting today with the United Nations High Representative for Disarmament, Izumi Nakamitsu focused on the topic of gender equality.

The reunion, which was attended by numerous Permanent Representatives committed to promoting gender equality within the Viennese International Organizations, provided the opportunity to discuss the topic in all its facets, from disarmament and non-proliferation to sustainable development, passing through the role of women in STEM and more generally in the peace and security dimension.

It was sharedopportunity for a highly coordinated approach to reaffirm the centrality of gender equality as a non-negotiable fundamental right and positive agent of change, promoting concrete initiatives in favor of female empowerment, starting from sectors where women are particularly underrepresented.

Ambassador Lepre reiterated the importance of this theme also in the context of the current Italian Presidency of the G7 as well as the Plenary Session of the Wassenaar Agreement, recalling that a G7 ministerial meeting dedicated to equality and equal opportunities is scheduled in Matera in October.
