Whirlpool/Beko: important interest from MIMIT but we ask for a quick first meeting with the new ownership and coordination of the delegates.
Minister Urso and Undersecretary Bergamotto informed us that they met Beko a few days ago, which acquired the majority of the former Whirlpool Europa shares; they also specified to us that they had reminded them of the constraints of the golden power for the protection of the Italian factories and that they had acquired the availability of the new ownership for a meeting with the trade union parties in an institutional setting. The Minister underlined that failure to appeal against the golden power provision would indirectly imply its acceptance. However, the new industrial plan should predictably be ready in five or six months which objectively represents a long time, especially due to the pre-existing delay in terms of investments by the old property.
As a union we expressed satisfaction with the fact that the Government is following the story of Whirlpool’s transition to new Turkish ownership, but we asked that the meeting be brought forward with respect to the long deadlines for presenting the industrial plan. We actually need to discuss an already serious situation of job cuts, as well as obtain clarifications on the prospects of all factories.
The Ministry of Made in Italy and Business, accepting our observation, said it was willing to work with the new ownership to hold a first meeting within the month of June.
