At Mimit, first meeting with trade union organizations on Beko Europe, a newco born from the Whirlpool-Arçelik agreement

Urso: the household appliance sector is strategic, we will propose a meeting between the company and workers’ representatives

The Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Ursusand the undersecretary with responsibility for corporate crises, Fausta Bergamotmet the national secretariats of Fim-Cisl, Fiom-Cgil, Uilm-Uil and Ugl Metalmeccanici at Palazzo Piacentini, for an update on Beko Europe, a company created last April 2nd from the Whirlpool-Arçelik agreement and active in the production and trade of household appliances. The company is 75% owned by Ardutch BV (Dutch holding controlled by Arçelik) and 25% by Whirpool EMEA Holdings LLC and has seven production plants across the country (Fabriano, Comunanza, Carinaro, Siena, Cassinetta di Biandronno, Pero, It is not).

During the meeting, the minister reiterated the strategic nature of the supply chain, “a sector that must be protected and relaunched. Today it was important to listen to the representatives of the workers who work in those factories that are so significant for the sector”.

“Here – continued Urso – we undertake to propose to the company a meeting with the unions, to give them the opportunity to discuss the production status of the plants and the market. Meeting that could take place within the month of June”.

Please remember that today’s discussion follows the one that took place at Mimit with the top management of Beko Europe on 19 April. On that occasion the new company had expressed its intention to share with the ministry the industrial plans for Europe and to start a discussion with the social partners in the near future.
