Oil of poor quality passed off as extra virgin olive oil. We do not know in what quantities the most noble and precious condiment of the Mediterranean diet has been conveyed, and perhaps in how many kitchens it has already ended up under false labelling: the fact is that the latest discovery made by the Carabinieri of the provincial command raises disturbing questions. During a normal check, a patrol of soldiers from the station Caivano they stopped a van driven by a young woman, discovering that she was carrying almost 900 litres of oil without labelling; but in the rear compartment of the vehicle there were also hundreds of falsified labels with the sign of a well-known brand of oil.
The reconstruction
Let’s proceed in order. It’s Monday morning, we’re long via delle Necropolione of the roads that borders the Municipality of Caivano (the same one from which you access the sadly known “Delphinia” sports center), and it is here that a patrol of carabinieri is engaged in a normal control service. The soldiers raise the flag and force a Fiat Doblò driven by a 27-year-old woman to stop. Afragolaalready known to the police. Then they open the back door of the van and discover dozens and dozens of green cans full of oil, but they become even more suspicious when, under some bags, they find a block of prints reproducing counterfeit labels of a well-known brand on the market.
The young woman does not provide any explanations, the load is seized and the woman is charged with selling industrial products with false signs (article 517 of the penal code), a crime punishable with imprisonment of up to six months or a fine of up to 1032 euros . But, beyond the dispute, investigators are now verifying what supply and sales channels were behind that load transported in an anonymous van.
Also for this reason the laboratory checks specific to verify the composition of that greenish oily liquid. It was certainly not EVO oil (extra virgin olive oil): the substance is currently being analyzed in a specialized center, and it will also be necessary to check whether chlorophyll was added to the mixture, to modify its color making it similar to that of extra virgin olive oil .
