Borzonasca: the barking dog and the altruism of the firefighters

A dog that barks insistently in the woods. He seems to be asking for help. The firefighters, warned, do not hesitate. It could be a dog signaling the presence of its owner in difficulty. So at 6.15pm they leave Chiavari headed for Borzonasca, a hamlet of Sopralcroce, where the dog continues to launch his supposed cry for help into the air. The search continues with a three-hour walk in the woods. A great demonstration of altruism; the hope of being able to help those who suffer is greater than the effort, while the sun sets and we proceed by torchlight. In the end they give up: there are no reports of missing people. Furthermore, they learn that there are two or three stray dogs in the area who also wander in the woods. It could have been one of them barking for unknown reasons.

The work of the firefighters is also this: freeing people stuck in elevators who suffer from claustrophobia; entering the homes of elderly people who have fallen and are unable to get up; help those who have lost their house keys and have to return home because they left the saucepan on the stove; search for possibly missing people even if it is a dog that gives a misleading alarm. And in all these cases, when the reporter on duty calls to find out if there are any news stories, he hears the answer: “Just normal administration”.
