“One year after the floods that hit Romagna, an excursion by the Order of Geologists to the affected places. On May 10, an excursion in the Province of Forlì-Cesena which has the highest value of landslide areas with 44.64 km2, will be open to the press. Dozens of geologists, together with the major national experts in the sector, will explore a portion of territory affected by important landslides, analysing, studying and discussing a situation that has never occurred before. The importance of these comparisons is fundamental in order to develop strategies capable of dealing with future land management in light of the evident climate changes”. This was stated by Paride Antolini, President of the Order of Geologists of Emilia-Romagna.
“It’s already been a year! A difficult year, a very intense and challenging year for us geologists called to operate in a territory devastated, in May 2023, by hydro-meteorological events of exceptional intensity on a much larger territory than Romagna, extended from the province of Reggio-Emilia to the province of Rimini, affecting 7 provinces and 83% of the regional population, with 14 victims. We would like to remind you, if necessary, that these exceptional events of 1-3 May and 16-17 May caused floods covering over 800 km2 – continued Antolini – with around 80 floods, isolated cities, caused over 79,000 landslides, brought businesses and farms to their knees and over 36,000 people had to leave their homes. One year later, the incredible activity and liveliness of Romagna is working to try to get out of a still critical and difficult situation”.
