The accident near the Calabritto exit

A serious road accident occurred in the Avellino area this afternoon, 29 April: a truck, after colliding with a car on the Fondo Valle Sele, fell from the viaduct for about ten metres near the exit of the industrial area of ​​Calabritto. The driver, pulled from the wreckage by firefighters, was taken by air ambulance to Salerno hospital; the other injured person, the man who was driving the car, was instead transported to the Oliveto Citra hospital.

Rescuers from the Alpine-speleological unit, the Fire Brigade (a team from the Lioni detachment, one from Eboli-Salerno, two crane trucks from the Provincial Commands of Salerno and Avellino, coordinated by the provincial shift manager of Avellino) and ambulances intervened on site. of the Public Assistance of Calabritto, engaged in the rescue and management of the accident together with Anas staff and the Carabinieri. The state road was temporarily closed to traffic in both directions of travel; Operations are underway to recover the articulated lorry, then it will be time to make the roadway safe before reopening.

The reconstruction is still being defined. According to what has been ascertained so far, the heavy articulated lorry, which was carrying boxes containing packaging for pasta packages, first collided with a car and then crashed into the protective barriers, which could not withstand the impact; at that point the truck fell into the void, from a height of approximately ten metres.
