The body of Cosimo Guarini, the 66-year-old, victim of the tragic collapse of the attic of his house which occurred last Thursday, 24 April, in via Salvatore Di Giacomo, in Carovigno, was returned to his family today, Tuesday 30 April, around midday. The explosion, caused by a gas leak from the stove cylinder, caused the collapse of the attic of the house in which he had been living alone for about a year, after the death of his mother.

Despite the intervention of the medical examiner, on behalf of the Brindisi Prosecutor’s Office, the autopsy was not deemed necessary and the body was returned to the family late this morning. The tragedy left the community dismayed, describing Guarini as a reserved and kind person.

Now, attention is focused on the safety of the buildings involved: the destroyed apartment at number 19 and those at numbers 21 and 17. The municipal administration has issued three ordinances, one for Guarini’s family and two for the owners of the homes adjacent. The immediate safety of the buildings involved is required, including demolition if necessary, in order to avoid further dangers to public safety.
