Second vice president of the Region Alessandro Piana will bring to the Conference of the Regions the reasons of the Ligurian fishermen penalized in catching bluefin tuna. In fact, the tuna arrive in the Ligurian Sea between September and October, but the quota is usually already reached by August and mostly by fishermen from Central and Southern Italy, a problem that is shared with professional fishing.

“This year – he explains Stefano Mai, Leader of the League in the Liguria Region – there was an increase in quotas reserved for bluefin tuna by 500 tons, but only one was added to the quota already assigned to sport fishermen. Since it is possible to quantify the exact number of those who practice this type of fishing, with an Agenda, approved by the Assembly, I asked the Region to take action with the Government to review the quotas for sport and recreational tuna fishing and establish them on regional basis and no longer on a national basis, to take into account the different needs that vary from region to region, or, alternatively, to evaluate other initiatives to give Ligurian sport fishermen the possibility of catching bluefin tuna, such as the use of bracelets, which already occurs in neighboring France”.

“I trust that we can have a discussion with the Ministry as soon as possible – concludes Mai”.
