The earthquake occurred and the shock wave is destined to spread further. The day after the news of the arrests of a (former) municipal employee and eight other entrepreneurs and prominent personalities from Usmate Velate, the first reactions arrive from the world of politics.
Arrests in Usmate Velate: the Administration declares itself “unrelated to the facts”
The news hit the mayor’s administration Lisa Mandelli like a boulder. The investigations, in fact, had been continuing for a year now, but few would have bet on such a sensational outcome just a few weeks before the municipal elections:
“As already reiterated at the beginning of the affair involving the Municipality of Usmate Velate, we express confidence in the work of the Judiciary and we are certain that the investigative course will shed light on the incident”.
These are the first words of the municipal majority and entrusted to a press release a few hours after the earthquake that shook the foundations of a municipality that was understandably armored in the face of the siege of journalists.
“To date, we have learned the news of what happened from press sources and we reiterate the total involvement of the Municipal Administration in the investigation which is the subject of the facts – continues the note – The municipal structure and those who administer this Municipality are at the disposal of the Judiciary for any further clarification, as already expressed at the start of the proceedings. It is up to the Judiciary to ascertain the truth of the facts, in the knowledge that the mayor, the municipal council and the municipal council have always acted in full compliance with the law, in fact all appearing to be totally unrelated to the incident. We can state right now that, if the investigations lead to the indictment of certain suspects, the Municipality will take action as a civil party. Center-right on the attack
And while waiting for full light to be shed on what is happening in these hours in the Town Hall, the center-right has also released a statement:
“We on the “Usmate and Velate Insieme” list declare ourselves extremely dismayed by these, to say the least, regrettable facts – the note from the opposition group which is running for the next elections in June – Our town certainly does not deserve to hit the headlines for these types of events go back to talking about Usmate Velate for its beauty and good administration and not for acts of delinquency. The dose was increased with a second statement released this morning:
“The twist that shook our quiet town of Usmate Velate on Monday 29th April appears as an omen in the aftermath of Liberation Day. The Administration, at best, seemed to be suffering from a strange form of “distraction” in decades of government have passed. But now, with “Usmate and Velate Insieme” at the helm, led by the candidate Mayor Vimercati Stefano, the men and women of his civic list, we can finally hope for a radical change. Where was the mayor when the opposition raised doubts about the validity of the Variation to the PGT? While the opposition asked legitimate questions regarding the Territorial Government Plan, the Mayor seemed committed to denying the evidence and mocking the opposition councilors. Where was the Council when it approved documents without guarantee control on delicate topics such as implementation plans, variations to the PGT and agreements with private individuals, has the Council throughout this time, especially on certain topics, appeared distracted, ignoring anomalies and deficiencies in the documents they were reviewing? Do the majority councilors who mocked the opposition ones still mock us today? While the opposition did its duty by reporting the critical issues during the sessions of the various municipal councils, the majority councilors seemed to enjoy mocking. Perhaps they should have taken their responsibilities more seriously and had a greater sense of duty with respect to the role they performed”
