“The Golden Calf 2024” to the relatives of Alessandro Cappucci and Riccardo Borgonovi
Friday 10 May the mayor of Toano Vincenzo Volpi will deliver “The Golden Calf” to the relatives of Alessandro Cappucci and Riccardo Borgonovi, the certificate of merit established in memory of people who have distinguished themselves for their commitment to volunteering and generally to social promotion, through culture, the valorization of the territory, traditions and history.
The ceremony will begin at 8.30 pm with the celebration of mass at the parish church of Toano, to remember the deceased volunteers of all the associations; at the end the mayor will deliver the certificate. The “Voci Lassù” choir will perform the songs of the Mass and will perform after the presentation of the certificates; a convivial moment will follow.
The event takes place on the initiative of the Toano Red Cross with the collaboration and patronage of the Municipality.

“The title of this certificate originates from the legend of the same name, which tells of a mysterious tunnel that connected the castle of Toano to the tower of Massa. At an indefinite point along its path the legendary golden calf was hidden. Some young people, dreaming of grabbing wealth and finally freeing themselves from their miserable conditions, they set out in search of it. They succeeded in their aim but, when they tried to reach out for the coveted calf, a mysterious force repelled them and they found themselves inexplicably thrown far away, some on the other side. top of a tree and even on Mount Prampa. This legend, which teaches how it is vain to seek happiness in gold and foolishly place it in wealth, is taken as a starting point for a certificate in memory of people who in life the calf of they looked for gold and found it in dedicating themselves to others, spending their time in volunteering, accumulating the wealth of the good they did. A posthumous, but dutiful recognition”.
