He was returning home, probably for the May 1st long weekend, to his family, but he didn’t have time to get there. Daniele Breganze, a 23-year-old carabiniere originally from Palermo, died yesterday in a collision between a car and a truck along the A20 Palermo-Messina motorway, in the stretch between Brolo and Rocca di Caprileone, in the direction of the capital.

The tragedy on the Palermo-Messina

The truck driver who died on the A20

Giuseppe Serio, 66, the truck driver who died ten days ago in the terrible accident on the Messina-Palermo road, was from Palermo and lived in the Zen neighborhood. He lived in via Leonardo Pisano, was married and had two daughters. Friends speak of him as a hard worker, a life spent on the truck as a second home, kind and respectable.
Yesterday Serio overturned his truck between the junctions of Sant’Agata di Militello and Rocca di Capri Leone, exactly just outside the tunnel on the Rosmarino viaduct. Traffic officers and fire brigade vehicles were on site, with the 118 men trying to resuscitate the victim but unfortunately there was nothing to be done.
The accident in Carini
Serious accident on the Carini ring road, along Via Don Sturzo, near the Poseidon. An articulated lorry, a BMW and a Yaris were involved. The toll is five injured. The two occupants of the BMW were transported to hospital by 118 under code red, the others are not known under what code.
For reasons still under investigation, a car collided with a truck. The heavy vehicle almost completely crushed the car.
The firefighters intervened and had to work all night to clear the road from the truck, a very heavy vehicle. Furthermore, the truck broke through the guardrail and remained balanced on the bridge. Precisely for this reason, the intervention of a fire engine crane was necessary to be able to move the vehicle, thus allowing the stretch of road to be reopened to traffic at dawn. The police carried out the investigations.
