Forlì, 30 April 2024 – “I only did my job as a head doctor. This whole situation was created artfully, with lies and personal attacks on my person”: before the judge of Trento he defends himself in a harsh and severe way, Saverio Tateothe former head of the gynecology department of the Santa Chiara hospital, where the doctor from Forlì worked Sara Pedrivanished into thin air on March 4, 2021.
Tateo, on the side of his deputy Liliana Mereu, is on trial for mistreatment to the detriment of 21 midwives, nurses and doctors of the gynecology department, all civil parties. Among them also Sara’s mother: the girl allegedly took her own life by throwing herself into the lake of Santa Giustina precisely because of the harassment she suffered.
In front of judge Marco Tamburrino, Tateo answers the questions of his lawyers, Salvatore Scuto and Nicola Stolfi, tenaciously denying every accusation move against him.
It was a sitting riverthat of yesterday at the courthouse in Trento, where Tateo continued his interrogation which began on 19 April, during a hearing in which the former head physician had indulged in moments of emotion: “I have not never had any inkling of his discomfortexcept when a sick request arrived,” Tateo said on April 19. During yesterday’s hearing, Tateo also criticized the position of some female doctors who are now civil parties in the proceedings, claiming that they would have “exploited Sara’s disappearance. She said that I had bullied her just as I had bullied them. But they are false. All lies”, the former head physician strenuously defended himself at trial.
Tateo he then defended himself in court on a specific point that emerged during the preliminary investigations, when a doctor, now a civil party, reported that Tateo would have uttered the sentence: “Sara Pedri should be physically eliminated”. The former head physician, pressed by the judge himself, underlined yesterday: “That sentence I never said it“.
The examination of the civil parties will end on June 28th; Tateo will then be heard by the prosecutor. Outlined the hearing calendar: 15 and 25 November and 2 December, discussion of the parties. Then the date of the sentence will be defined.
I am eleven civil parties in total, that they requested compensation for 1.2 million of Euro. In addition to Sara’s mother – as the curator of the Forlì gynecologist -, the Trentino health company, the Fenalt union, and seven female doctors appear.
