In an interview with Corriere della Sera the popular journalist and Rai presenter revealed that he is ill and has mesothelioma: “As a war correspondent I breathed asbestos: I am calm and I don’t give up, but there is no cure from this. Rai doesn’t respond to my emails.”
“I’m afraid you see traces of something (of my illness), this little tube that runs over my face is connected to an automatic respirator that allows me to breathe forcedly but allows me to be here. I got mesothelioma, a very bad tumor, linked to the presence of asbestos in the air,” Franco Di Mare said last night, during the episode of “Che tempo che fa” hosted by Fabio Fazio on the Nove.
“It is taken because you breathe in asbestos particles without realizing it – explained the popular journalist and Rai presenter -: an asbestos fiber is 6,000 times smaller and lighter than a hair. Once released into the air it no longer settles on the ground, one breathes it without realizing it. It has a very long shelf life, it can wait for up to 30 years and when it appears, unfortunately, it is generally too late.”

“With this the hopes do not end, the hopes are still there, the research continues. We must not get discouraged, I tell those who suffer from this same tumor that I have, that we can move forward with reasonable hopes that there is a solution and that it is not that far away”, added Franco Di Mare.
