The Oscar-winning actress, in fact, is registered as Emily Stone: a detail that not everyone knows.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Emma’s co-star in «The Curse» Nathan Fielder said: «Before we continue, I would like to say one thing. Her name is Emily, but professionally she calls herself Emma.”
«So, when there are people who don’t know her, I also call her Emma. But today I’ll call her Emily.”
The actress replied: «You can call me Emma or Emily. You do it!”.
The star of «Poor Creatures!» she revealed that she chose the stage name because there was already an actress registered with the Screen Actors Guild under the name Emily Stone.
«A few years ago I went crazy! For reasons I can’t explain to you, I said, “I can’t do this anymore. I want to be called Emily.”
If a fan were to come up and call her Emily, the 35-year-old wouldn’t correct them. “It would be nice. I would like to be called Emily,” she admitted.
The actress previously revealed that she chose the name Emma, taking inspiration from Spice Girls star Emma Bunton, also known as Baby Spice.
“Growing up I was super blonde, my real name is Emily, but I wanted to be called Emma for Baby Spice, and… look at me now!,” Stone said in an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2018.
