The American newspaper Wall Street Journal writes that the Russian president Vladimir Putin probably he did not directly order the dissident’s death Alexei Navalny, detained in a Siberian prison. The newspaper mentions American intelligence sources. The conclusion of the US 007 is criticized by Navalny’s allies: those who claim that Putin did not know “clearly do not understand how modern Russia works. The idea that Putin was not informed and did not approve the killing of Navalny is ridiculous,” he highlights in a note to the Wall Street Journal Leonid VolkovNavalny’s ally.
The Wall Street Journal explains that the reconstruction does not dispute Putin’s responsibility for Navalny’s death, but simply notes that it was probably not he who ordered it at that time. The American intelligence assessment is based on one series of information, including some confidential, and on an analysis of public facts, including the time of death and how it affected Putin’s re-election. The version issued by the Russian Prison Service last February 16 is that Navalny has lost consciousness after a walk in the penal colony. Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and the inmate died. In March, Putin said that before his death, he was considering an exchange between Navalny and Russian prisoners in the West, with the only condition that the opponent would never return to Russia.
“I saw the article. I wouldn’t describe it as a high quality item that deserves attention. I am alone useless speculation“, says the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov. “It seems that the goal was to give the global audience something to read at the weekend,” Peskov cut short.
