Cup of coffee, price increases in sight: in the Lodi area the average cost stands at 1.11 euros

The average price of a cup of coffee in the bars of Lodi and its province is 1.11 euros: the increase compared to 2021 was 7.8% (three years ago the average price was 1.03 euros), lower to that recorded in other Lombardy provinces and in many Italian territories. And this is what emerges from the report dedicated to “expensive coffee” just released by Assoutenti (the National Association of public service users) based on data from the Ministry of Economic Development.

«Espresso coffee – the association notes – has undergone continuous price increases in recent years, to the point that today the average price of a cup consumed at a bar stands at 1.18 euros in the main Italian cities. In 2021 the average cost of espresso was 1.03 euros: the increase was 14.9%”.

In first place in the national ranking of price increases is the province of Pescara, where the average cost of espresso has increased by 28% compared to 2021 (from 1 to 1.28 euros), while the most expensive coffee by far is served in the bars of Bolzano at an average cost of 1.38 euros (+16.9% compared to three years ago).

The Lombard picture provided by Assoutenti does not include all the provinces. Among those taken into consideration, the greatest increases occurred in Mantua (the current average cost of the cup is 1.28 euros, +19.6% compared to 2021), Bergamo (1.15 euros, +17.3%) and Milan (the average cost is 1.17 euros, +13.6%); followed by Lecco (1.19 euros, +12.3%), Varese (1.11 euros, +11%), Lodi (1.11 euros, 7.8%), Brescia (1.18 euros, +5, 4%).

The increases in coffee prices on international markets could soon lead to new increases in the cost of the cup. «I do not exclude that there may be adjustments in the coming months – says Isacco Galuzzi, general secretary of Confcommercio Lodi and Basso Lodigiano -. There are many dynamics that affect the price: first of all there are the increases in energy and raw materials, but then we must take into account the fact that coffee at the bar is a service that is formed by the manager to his liking, and already today in the Lodi area there are bars where coffee costs one euro and thirty, forty cents. But apart from the different methods of service, given the increases in raw material prices it is likely that some operators will soon decide to adjust prices”.n
