Candela Sanchi is gold medalist in the Under 17s

Last year at the Italian Youth Championships she won silver in the Under 15 sector and subsequently won the Italian gold in the fifth and fourth categories. After the recent bronze in the second category in Molfetta, today Candela Sanchi (Tennistavolo Torino) climbed to the first step of the podium in the Under 17 singles, achieving a hat trick, having already been the best in the team and women’s doubles.

Yet in the qualifying round the n. 1 immediately ran into an accident, losing 3-2 (10-12, 11-7, 4-11, 12-10, 11-9) to Ginevra Sartori (Tennistavolo Lavis), who had replaced her in top of the board.

In the direct elimination phase Sanchi redeemed herself, going all the way, with 3-0 (11-4, 12-10, 11-8) in the quarterfinals over Francesca Seu (Muravera Tennistavolo), who had beaten her in 2023 in the Under 15 final, the 3-1 (11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9) in the semi-final over her clubmate Sofia Minurri and the 3-0 (11-7, 11-5 , 11-6) in the final against Giulia Varveri (Tennistavolo Ennio Cristofaro). The latter put the silver around her neck, after beating Aurora Paoli (Bernini Tennistavolo Livorno) by 3-1 (10-12, 11-5, 11-7, 11-9) and by 3-1 (2 -11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8) the aforementioned Sartori, tied for third with Minurri.

The outgoing champion and true Terni native Irene Moretti (CIATT Prato) exited the group, having been beaten by Varveri and Alessandra Benassi (Tennistavolo Marco Polo).

The awards were given by Terni municipal councilor Claudio Batini.
