The Bishop of Imola Msgr. Giovanni Mosciatti met today with the students of the Lugo High School who make use of the teaching of Catholic Religion, in the Aula Magna, at the conclusion of an educational project developed on “The Economy of Francesco”.

The Economy of Francesco, explains the Headmaster Giancarlo Frassineti, “is an informal and international movement of economists, entrepreneurs, activists and promoters of a sustainable economy under 35, born following an open letter from Pope Francis addressed to young economists, entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs from all over the world, with the aim of studying a new way of understanding the economy according to the spirit of Francis of Assisi. The pope’s letter invited interested parties to attend a large meeting in Assisi in March 2020, entitled The Economy of Francis. Young people, a pact, the future – Assisi 2020, meeting postponed to November due to the pandemic. Due to the continuation of the emergency, the event took place via streaming from 19 to 21 November of the same year, preceded by a series of events and webinars with various economic experts, involving 115 countries. The three days online ended with a video message from the Pontiff and the publication of a declaration of intent by the movement born in the months of organization of the event, with the succession, in a process of dialogue, of a planning of actions aimed at realizing the change required for a new sustainable economic culture”.

Welcomed by the head teacher Giancarlo Frassineti and by the teachers of the Catholic Religion High School Ilaria Contarelli, Flavio Rossi, Federica Mazzoli, the Bishop, long-time religion teacher at the Fabriano high school in the Marche region, “answered exhaustively, with profound and enriching reflections, to the questions posed by the students, prepared through the educational path developed in the weeks preceding the meeting. Economic development cannot be dissociated from justice and environmental protection, themes already expressed by Pope Francis in the encyclical Laudato Si, up until the recent Apostolic Exhortation Laudate Deum”.

“We are all called – continues the manager – even the young generations, to assume full awareness of the need for cultural change, which puts the care and protection of man and creation at the center of development, with the creation of a sustainable economy, capable of distinguishing between what is important for our lives and what is superfluous. Respect between people leads to justice and subsequently to respect for creation. The world’s economy is based on trust, on reliance; it is also necessary to take care of the other, of his needs, from a perspective of justice. Change starts from oneself; the forces that change history are the same that change everyone’s heart. The life and work of Saint Teresa of Calcutta is exemplary in this sense. The very important occasion of the discussion with the Bishop constituted a moment of rich and profound reflection for the students and for the teachers themselves, a common enrichment” concludes the manager.
