portofinoPortofino? A place of rich people. To put it in black and white are the numbers of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which for the year 2022 have crowned the pearl of Tigullio as richest municipality in Italy. The enormous jump in the average income of citizens, went from 39,200 euros in 2021 to 90,610 euros in 2022gave the podium to Portofino, which placed first ahead of Lajatico (with 52,955 euros), and Basiglio (49,524 euros).

The ‘revelation’ is Briaglia (Cuneo), which climbs 1,039 positions compared to 2021 and takes fourth place nationally with 43,475 euros. In the top ten there are two other new features: Pino Torinese (Turin) is now in ninth place, Milan (the only capital city) rises to tenth.

THE INCREASE IN INCOME IS JUST AN ILLUSION

But not all that glitters is gold: if on the one hand the average income of citizens is increasing, on the other inflation decimates their spending capacity. It is therefore a game of illusions in which the surge in income does not translate into a real advantage: incomes grew by 4.85% but inflation skyrocketed to 8.1%. The situation was photographed by Intwig, a data intelligence company based in Bergamo.

THE RICHEST REGIONS

The fracture between north and south persists and seems to be widening: Lombardy remains the region with the highest per capita income (25,698 euros in 2022, +1,126 euros compared to 2021), while Trentino-Alto Adige rises to second place (23,876 euros, +1,338 euros) overtaking Emilia-Romagna (23,713 euros, +982 euros). At the rear are Calabria (16,108 euros, +814 euros), Molise (17,049 euros, +819) and Puglia (17,230 euros, +849 euros).
