If it had happened a few hours earlier or a few hours later, someone could have been hurt. Instead, the fortunate coincidence of the public holiday and also the late hour in which the episode occurred meant that the premises were empty at that moment and no one was involved.
A failure of a ceiling cable duct was recorded yesterday in the premises of the Single Booking Center of the Fiorini hospital in Terracina, one of the busiest areas of the hospital, where users can book or cancel healthcare and diagnostic services.
The collapse affected a corrugated pipe inside the wall, and the noise generated by the collapse alarmed everyone present in the hospital, including hospitalized patients, doctors and operators who were on duty at the time.
As stated by the director Giuseppe Ciarlo, a company was immediately commissioned to restore the premises and by late yesterday afternoon, the workers had completed the arrangement of the false ceiling while the cleaning company removed the debris on the floor. Within a few hours, the area was safe to use again.
For the entire morning and part of the afternoon yesterday, the entrance to the hospital was diverted into the atrium, precisely to allow the work to be carried out smoothly by the company in charge.
Following the works, we also proceeded with a reconnaissance of the premises and following careful monitoring, it was not necessary to carry out safety measures. In short, despite the fear, it does not appear that the accident is attributable to more complex structural problems.
