“Pharmacies increasingly represent a point of reference for the community and for the national health service, often constituting the closest healthcare facility for citizens”

“Mine goes to the pharmacists appreciation for the professionalism and commitment spent every day at the service of Italians who in recent years have increasingly expressed appreciation towards the pharmacy services. A project that Fofi is carrying forward with enthusiasm and determination. Pharmacists represent a key asset of Italian healthcare, they are attentive and qualified professionals present in a widespread manner throughout the territory capable of ensuring an increasingly detailed and punctual response to people’s health needs”. Thus the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci in the video message sent to the pharmacists gathered on the occasion of the Fofi National Council.

“The pharmacies they increasingly represent a point of reference for the community and for the national health service, often constituting the closest health facility for citizens – underlined Schillaci – and from this perspective, in the last budget maneuver we responded to the need to increase the levels of local assistance with a rule that allows pharmacies affiliated with the national health service to dispense medicines which until now were only available at hospital pharmacies”.

The new drug distribution process, added the minister, “enhances the role of the pharmacist in promoting therapeutic adherence by encouraging appropriateness and persistence in the therapies that are necessary to obtain better health outcomes, reduce possible complications and therefore the consumption of healthcare resources”. For meet the needs of citizens, the minister then recalled, the Government has “refinanced the experiment for the remuneration of the services pharmacy services and with the delegation on simplification in pharmaceutical matters, currently under examination by Parliament”, has prepared ” a series of interventions that will improve care for chronic patients”.

Furthermore, “with the simplification decree – underlined the Minister – we have expanded the benefits that will be available be followed by pharmacists in local facilities, in particular by strengthening vaccinations, diagnostic tests and telemedicine services”. In conclusion, the Minister of Health wanted to express his appreciation to Fofi “for the highly qualified training and professional development opportunities it offers to pharmacists”. And also for the commitment “in promoting the value of the pharmacist profession in society and in particular among young people”.
